Functional braces look similar to a removable brace but they are worn on the upper and lower teeth. There are numerous designs available and depending on the individual movements required they can be made in one or two separate pieces.

They are designed so that the lower jaw is moved into a new position and in this way, they can influence the movement of the teeth and the jaws in growing patients. While braces cannot influence how quickly your child will grow, a combination of specialist orthodontic planning, timing and brace design and good wear of the appliance by the patient you can positively influence the shape of both jaws in the growing patient.
